Sean Clottu


Sean received his BS in Design from Arizona State University.

Sean Clottu joined NextWave Ventures as Principal and Chief Marketing Officer in 2016 from private equity owned Competitor Group, Inc. While at CGI, Sean was primarily responsible for managing the global partnership marketing team which structured multi-million dollar deals with Fortune 100 brands, significantly growing company revenue and eventually leading it to a successful exit in 2014. Sean has also held leadership positions with Wasserman Media Group, Bonnier Corporation, and TimeWarner.

A long time entrepreneur, marketer, and start-up expert, Sean is responsible for overseeing all marketing, sales, and business development strategies for NextWave’s portfolio companies.

Spending quality time with my family at home, which means I'm usually outside with my kids playing.

What is the best advice you’d give to founders?

First, there's nothing that can take the place of persistence. Second, don't underestimate the power of marketing and effective story telling. The key ingredients being your logo, website, and presentation materials which together can take you a long way.

Name a brand that has changed an industry.

Airbnb. They're a great example of a brand that recognized a massive market gap and developed a solution to meet that consumer demand. Even though a lot of early investors didn't think people would want strangers staying in their house, they pushed forward and forever changed the hospitality industry. Now they have a valuation of more than $30B. Not too bad.
